The ongoing collaboration between police and the community in addressing law and order in Madang Town and even the rural communities has resulted in what was one of the most peaceful Christmas Day celebrations in many years.

In the provincial capital, people displayed their best behaviours during the two nights of Christmas celebrations at the Laiwaden Oval and the Kalibobo Lighthouse on Wednesday evening for the carols by candlelight and last night's fireworks.

Provincial Police Commander for Madang, Superintendent Robert Baim attributed the peaceful celebrations to the ongoing working collaboration that police have with the community in addressing law and order.

"Christmas period in Madang was largely peaceful, with police reporting only a few minor offences during the festive season. This outcome reflects the strong collaboration between law enforcement, local leaders, business communities, health and security services, and residents," Superintendent Baim said.

The Provincial Police Commander also thanked the people of Madang and key stakeholders for their cooperation, saying the calm celebrations reflected a collective effort to maintain law and order.

“Despite a few offences, the overall Christmas period was peaceful, and this would not have been possible without the support and discipline of our people,” he said.

He specifically acknowledged the leadership of Governor Ramsey Pariwa and the Provincial Executive Council for their continued commitment to law and order, as well as Provincial Administrator Daniel Aloi for his consistent support in facilitating police operations.

Superintendent Baim further extended his appreciation to business houses and stakeholders across the province for their assistance and commended residents for celebrating responsibly.

“The people of Madang played their part by celebrating peacefully, and that made our work easier,” he said.

The police commander extended special appreciation to security force personnel, health workers, and hospital staff who worked throughout the holiday period despite limited resources.

“Our security forces served diligently, and our doctors and hospital staff worked tirelessly to care for our people. God sees your hearts,” he added.

Looking ahead, Superintendent Baim called on the public to carry the same spirit of cooperation into the New Year.

“Let us take this momentum into the New Year. Let us reset our mindsets and work together for a new and better Madang,” he said.

Madang Police, meanwhile; remain committed to protecting the public, upholding the rule of law, and fostering a shared sense of responsibility across all sectors.

While the Christmas period was largely peaceful, authorities will continue to monitor public safety, respond swiftly to incidents, and engage communities in ongoing crime prevention and safety-awareness initiatives.

The leadership and governance of the province, including Governor Pariwa and the Provincial Executive Council, the Provincial Administrator, and the broader business and community stakeholders, are commended for their steadfast support in sustaining security and public safety.

This statement stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit that characterizes Madang as it heads into the New Year with renewed resolve and optimism.
