Central to enforce liquor ban
The Central Provincial Administration will enforce liquor ban operations on key public holidays during the upcoming festive season, Acting Provincial Administrator Bala Kapa has announced.
In a public notice issued this week, Mr Kapa said the measures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and order during a period traditionally associated with increased alcohol-related incidents.
The liquor ban will be enforced on the following dates:
Christmas Day – December 25, 2025
Boxing Day – December 26, 2025
New Year’s Eve – December 31, 2025
New Year’s Day – January 1, 2026
Under the directive, the sale, possession and consumption of liquor in public places will be strictly prohibited in designated areas across the province. Law enforcement authorities will conduct regular patrols and inspections to ensure compliance.
Kapa said the restrictions align with government regulations and community safety protocols, aimed at reducing alcohol-related violence, promoting responsible behaviour and ensuring a peaceful festive season for residents and visitors.
However, the notice clarified that licensed establishments, including hotels, motels, lodges, taverns, publican bars and resorts, are exempted from the ban, provided they operate within the terms of their licences.
The Central Provincial Administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities, urging that collective responsibility is key to making the festive season safe and enjoyable for all.
