Alotau highway robberies a concern

Alotau ended June with yet another fatal highway robbery.
A PMV driver in his early 30s was shot at around the Halowia area at around 9 am on Monday; he died from injuries he sustained to his head. There were reportedly 8 masked armed men involved.
Provincial Police Commander chief inspector Benjamin Kua says that's 7 holdups that saw five deaths so far in this month alone.
The deaths include four at Yapoa, including a 12year old boy on a PMV and a separate three others in a suspected retaliation murder involving the killing of three brothers and now, the PMV driver at Halowia.
He says these activities will continue unabated if the Police and Public do not strike a balance in helping each other end this.
He says of the lot, not much details have been given them to make arrests- which means these people are still out there and are a huge risk to thousands of people who use the highway daily.
He is appealing for information to assist them make arrests and end this.
Meantime, another PMV was also held up yesterday evening around the Watunou area, most passenger items were stolen.
