At least three families have been displaced by Monday’s heavy rain and flooding in Alotau Town.
Local Disaster officials have stood in temporarily to assist them, but for how long?

46-year-old Jill Valoi and her family have only what they wear, everything else was covered by a landslide on Monday morning when heavy rains sparked flooding and landslides in Alotau Town.

They agree going back is not an option as the area at Paradise Street is quite hazardous with a crack very evident still in the hillside.

Authorities tell NBC News the three households, a total of 16 individuals, are being assisted for the next course of action, which will likely be repatriation to their homes.

Alotau remains on the alert as rains continue all this week, people living along creeks and rivers and under foothills have been reminded to be vigilant during this time.
