First infrastructure under teachers housing scheme commissioned

The Huon Gulf District Development Auhtority commissioned its first teacher housing scheme project at Bubia Lutheran Primary School, outside Lae in Morobe Province.

Community Development, Sports, Youth and Woman’s Minister and Huon Gulf MP did the honors in cuttoing the ribbon to the K350,000 three in one teachers house.

The head of Inspection for Basic Education in the province, Kwinda Trenian, stressed the importance of taking ownership and building infrastructures conducive for teachers' welfare and students learning.

“The Provincial Education Board can endorse schools to elevate to next level but to build the school, will solely depend on everyone to work together, including parents,schools and respective district authorities," he said.

"The educations new structure, requires certain primary to be elevated and Huon Gulf must work hard or there’ll be spill over in the future, children will look for spacing and might be left out.”

Huon Gulf MP Jason Peter at the occasion unveiled his plan for education, committing K4m for education sector in his district.

Peter said the new housing scheme was a commitment by the DDA to improve teachers housing facilities, with a K527,000 fund made available to benefit at least 27 teachers starting this year.

Peter said education was a priority sector under is development scope.

“Huon Gulf Districts has 65 schools, which we will improve Salamaua High, Morobe Technical High and Tsiletsile to secondary level. Bubia Primary, Kamiatam Primary, to elevate to junior high like the existing Zifasing Junior High School.”

Head Teacher for Bubia Primary School acknowledged the local MP and his DDA, national government, through its GTFS and parents and citizens for completing the projects.

“These two projects were complete with the contributions of the three key stakeholders, with a total cost of K350,000 for the teachers triplex and K97,000.00 for the ground floor, 5 in 1 grade 3 classrooms.”

The school also witnessed their local MP officiate a ground breaking ceremony for 6 new classrooms in preparation for the new junior high school.

Bubia Lutheran Primary is a level 8 school with 1,029 students with 45 teachers.
