UPNG’s week-long graduation commences today

The University of Papua New Guinea [UPNG] commenced its week-long 70th Graduation Ceremony this morning at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex, beginning with the School of Natural and Physical Sciences [SNPS], which graduated 184 students.
Prime Minister James Marape officiated at the ceremony.
He congratulated today’s graduands and extended his commendation to the other students who will graduate in the coming days.

Addressing the graduands of SNPS, Prime Minister Marape emphasized the urgent need for Papua New Guinea to cultivate a new generation of researchers, scientists, and innovators who can drive the nation forward in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
"We are living in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and rapid technological advancement," Marape said.
"Today’s world is shaped and saved by cyber knowledge, science, research, and innovation. We need individuals who will not only adapt but will lead—those who will break barriers and discover new frontiers."
Marape challenged the SNPS graduands to seize the opportunities ahead, urging them to embrace optimism and courage as they step into the future.
"Science, research, and statistics are the engines that drive innovation, propel economies, and safeguard the future," he said.

"You, as gradunds of country’s premier university carry the responsibility of saving the future, not just adapting to it. The future will reward those who dare to lead, innovate, and create solutions for challenges we have yet to imagine."
He encouraged the students to carve out their own paths with confidence.
"Find your space in the world. Believe that you can succeed, even when the future seems uncertain. Those who strive for excellence and innovation will shape the destiny of our country and our world," Marape said.
The graduation festivities will continue tomorrow with the School of Law, where 160 students will receive their Bachelor’s degrees.

On Wednesday, the School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP) will take the stage, followed by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences [SMHS] on Thursday.
The celebrations will conclude on Friday with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences [SHSS].
A total of 1,431 students are graduating from UPNG this week.
