The nominations for the 2025 Local Level Government Elections and the Kabwum By-election in Morobe Province was declared open by the Provincial Elections Manager, Simon Soheke a little after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The elections manager went live on NBC Morobe with the aim to reach as many people as possible, while officially opening nominations for the 37 LLGs, as well as the Kabwum district by-election.

The writs were issued in Port Moresby at 4 o'clock (yesterday), while Soheke as the Returning Officer [RO] for Morobe Province, declared the writs for the 604 Ward Councilors open for nominations to start.

NBC News also witnessed the first call on radio, which announced the nomination of Kising Pokang, contesting the Ahi LLG Councilor’s seat in Lae, who was the first person who went for nominations, minutes after the declarations were made.

Meantime, Soheke is appealing to all the candidates, especially those contesting the Kabwum open electorate to follow proper procedures in their campaigns, and allow the people to freely vote, whoever they prefer to represent them in Parliament and the Tutumang Haus.

"We all don't want a repetition of what happened in the 2022 National Elections, so let's all take
responsibility and ownership, and go through the right process. Stick to doing your own campaigns and
avoid intimidating other candidates."

Mr. Soheke also appealed to all candidates vying for the LLG President’s seats, to lobby for numbers among councilors in a clean way, and not intimidate each other.

He also wished all candidates a success in their run for the cause of finding respective leaders, to
represent their people in the Provincial Assembly's Tutumang and in the National Parliament.
