Local Level Government elections writs issued

The Writs for the Local Level Government elections were officially signed by the Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, Soroei Eoe at Morauta Haus at 4pm this afternoon.
As of 4pm all seats of the Ward Councilors and Local Level Government [LLG] presidents are on the floor. Nomination opens effective immediately.
This afternoon's signing marks the official start of the election process, giving citizens the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to contest and vote for representatives in the LLG Assemblies.
Candidates will now contest for positions across 374 LLGs and 6,916 wards nationwide, as well as 14 seats in the Motu-Koita Assembly.
In the upcoming elections, LLG presidents in the seven Highlands provinces, along with Morobe, will be elected indirectly, chosen by Ward Councilors in the provincial assembly after the election process is completed.
While the remaining 12 provinces will hold direct elections, where voters will elect both Ward Councilors and LLG presidents.
This marks the first time the Electoral Commission will implement both voting methods simultaneously.
"I urge the provincial and district administration, LLGs and people in respective communities to take ownership and provide necessary support to assist the Electoral Commission deliver its role, "Minister Eoe said.
The writs were officially issued this afternoon and are scheduled to be returned on August 22, 2025.
