Sealing gives new look to Mendi town

Rehabilitation and sealing of Mendi Town roads in the Southern Highlands Province has given a new look to the town, a significant transformation by local contractor Construct Oceanic Limited [COL].
Mendi Town resident Berry Moya said the hardworking construction workers have poured the first layer of asphalt.
He said once the sealing is finished, it will not only improve the town’s infrastructure but also bring a sense of pride and progress to the community.
The 8th PNG Unity Games is nearing, and the development in road sealing not only aims to enhance the immediate surroundings of Mendi Town but also sets a benchmark for other pending projects throughout the province.
“The timing of the road sealing aligns perfectly with the upcoming 8th PNG Unity Games to be hosted in the province.
“A well-prepared and polished town not only boosts the confidence of the visiting teams but also showcases the pride and hospitality of the Southern Highlands,” he said.
Mr Moya said in the long run, improved infrastructure like road sealing will undoubtedly bring enduring benefits to the province, from better connectivity to increased opportunity for local businesses, tourism, and community development.
He said it’s a step forward in making Mendi Town and Southern Highlands an even more vibrant and thriving place.
“We commend COL for its dedication and effort in preparing one of the key venues for the 8th PNG Unity Games.
“Its commitment ensures that Southern Highlanders and Papua New Guineans will have a well-prepared facility to host this significant national event,” he said.
He said the economic landscape of Papua New Guinea has presented formidable challenges, with many companies grappling with financial strain and delayed payments.
Oceanic Construction, however, has demonstrated remarkable resilience, continuing to push forward with its projects even as bills pile up at the National Works and Highway Headquarters.
He said this determination showcases the firm spirit of the company, reflecting a deep-rooted commitment to community development.
Mr Moya urged all other contractors responsible for Games venues to step up and deliver on their commitments.
He said the success of these Games depends on timely completion, and the people of SHP and PNG deserve quality venues that will not only serve the event but also remain as lasting legacies for sports development in the province.
