Telefomin hospital receives 15 new beds to serve more patients

Patients and families in Telefomin will now receive better care with 15 new hospital beds delivered to Telefomin Hospital this week.

For the 79,000 people of Telefomin District, the donation addresses a critical need.

The new beds will immediately increase the hospital’s capacity, meaning more sick mothers, children, and elders can be admitted and treated comfortably instead of waiting or sharing beds.

With limited beds, rural patients often travel long distances only to find no space. The additional 15 beds will reduce overcrowding in wards, improve patient comfort and recovery, allow faster admission for emergencies and maternity cases and support nurses and health workers to deliver better care

Valued at approximately K30,000 to K40,000, the beds represent a significant step toward stronger health services in one of PNG’s most remote hospitals.

Health workers at Telefomin Hospital say the timing is vital as patient numbers continue to grow.

Speaking at the handover, Acting General Manager of Teokyana Holdings Limited, Mr. Tammy Sinoksep said the company is committed to standing with the district.

“Teokyana Holdings Limited is for the 79,000 people of Telefomin. We are here to stay, and we will continue to support the district,” Sinoksep said.

He confirmed this is the first of more planned support for the rural people in Telefomin district.
