The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea has received a major operational boost with an historic K1.25 million support from Kumul Mineral Holdings Limited.

This significant financial backing it’s the first for BFPNG under the leadership of president David Peter and patron Charles Abel, where the money will enable the national teams to compete in four international events.

KMHL managing director for External Affairs, Philip Manda, said the state owned entity was poised to partner with BFPNG to enhance the basketball landscape in the country.

“Basketball is deeply rooted in every village, church, school, and community, yet its talents remain untapped,” Manda said when presenting the funds.

“We are thrilled to partner with BFPNG to nurture these talents. Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited proudly takes on the role of the major sponsor of Basketball."

The support from KMHL will see Basketball showcased on the international stage with the national team set to participate in four significant competitions this year.

The upcoming events include the 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore scheduled from March 26-30, Mini Pacific Games in Palau (June 29 – July 9), FIBA Melanesian Cup, and the FIBA U17 Championships.

BFPNG patron Abel acknowledged KMHL's dedication to supporting BFPNG in elevating sports both at the international and local levels.

"The backing and sponsorship provided will not only propel Basketball and PNG on the global stage but will also significantly impact the local sports scene," Abel said.

Basketball president Peter said the sponsorship from KMHL will also significantly enhance BFPNG's National Championships and Regional Championships, promoting the development of basketball in the country.

“The funds will be allocated to support both our local and international events. Furthermore, the sponsorship from KMHL will bolster BFPNG's National Championships and Regional Championships, ultimately advancing the development of Basketball in Papua New Guinea,” he said.
