Port Moresby’s commemoration event is set for tonight

The Sir John Guise indoor stadium has been prepared to host tonight's 4th commemoration program for the country's first Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
Prime Minister James Marape and Port Moresby city Governor Powes Parkop are expected to officiate at the program.
This year's commemoration of the life of Sir Michael Somare is set to be unique, with the addition of an image of the late Sir Julius Chan, who also passed away recently, displayed alongside Sir Michael’s portrait at the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium.
The program is expected to be a joint commemoration, celebrating the lives of the two founding fathers of the country.
The official program is scheduled to start at 6 pm with welcome remarks by NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
Additional speeches from guests, including a representative from the Somare family, will also be delivered.
Prime Minister James Marape is expected to be the keynote speaker following his return from a visit to Sir Michael's tomb in Wewak today.
The commemoration program will conclude at 8 pm after Prime Minister James Marape gives his keynote address.
