Prime Minister James Marape arrived in Honiara, Solomon Islands, this morning to attend the Honiara Summit 2025.

The summit, running from February 24 to 27, 2024, is being held at the Honiara National Sports Stadium and focuses on sustainable fisheries.

PM Marape was welcomed by Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Channel, along with senior government officials.

Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Jelta Wong, who has been actively involved in the summit preparations, was also present to receive the Prime Minister. Deputy Secretary Policy of the Department of Prime Minister & NEC, Frank Aisi, accompanied the group.

The summit’s theme, "Iumi Tugeda Delivering on SDG14.4: Achieving Sustainable Fisheries," underscores the region's commitment to wisely managing marine resources.

The event is being hosted by the Solomon Islands Government with support from the Forum Fisheries Agency [FFA] and member countries of the Pacific Islands Forum [PIF].

PM Marape is set to deliver a keynote address during the summit’s opening, with a particular focus on the East New Britain Initiative [ENBi].

The initiative advocates for the processing of marine resources, like tuna fish, within PIF and FFA member countries.

This approach aims to maximize regional benefits, creating employment and generating significant revenue through sustainable management of marine resources.
