Doubles to young hooker Mark Gutuma and speedster Vatolata Tipuna, helped Tauruba Wallabies earn their place in the grand final against Bonanamo Sharks.
The Wallabies outclassed Bona Sharks team 2, 26-14, to setup a mouthwatering clash against the Bona Sharks premier side in the big dance this Saturday.
Wallabies co-captain Gai Vemuru said the Rigo Coast Rugby League decider would be a tough challenge but a strong semifinal performance over the weekend has propelled his team with confidence ahead of the big game.
“We’ve been training for almost a month and the results paid off during our semifinal win over Bona Sharks 2,” Vemuru told NBC News.
“We’re thrilled for an exciting match against the team 1 on Saturday. It’s going to be a good challenge between us [Tauruba] and Bonanamo.
“I think the boys are geared for the final and we look forward to this Saturday’s grand final.”
Wallabies opened proceedings for the Central Provincial Government-backed competition in style as crafty dummy half Gutuma sliced his way through for the first try.
The semifinal played at Kwikila Station in Rigo was predicted to be an entertaining affair after both sides games in the previous week were called off due to spectator violence.
The Tauruba outfit showcased a class of entertaining footy in the entire match with some fine touches from star halfback and skipper Vemuru, led the men in green and gold to a 12-point lead after winger Tipuna scored a corner try from a Zachy Tom chip kick.
Fullback Anthony Gumu played a pivotal role in the set plays assisting the halves in Fabian Renagi and Vemuru as barnstorming forwards Boas Galama and Bruno Raga led upfront.
Try-scoring ace Tipuna was elusive on the edge with his line break abilities which put his opponent under pressure from the onset.
The dynamic winger picked up the player-of-the-match after an outstanding performance alongside Gutuma.
Tauruba Wallabies will be looking to regain supremacy this weekend when they face Bona Sharks in the Rigo Coast Rugby League grand final.
