Lae AFL semi-finals set for weekend

The 2026 Lae AFL Senior Men's competition moves into the semi-finals this weekend, with teams fighting for a place in the grand final.

The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, at Eriku Oval.

Eight teams took part in this year's competition, with clubs fielding squads of up to 30 players.

Lae AFL President Alang Issac says the introduction of 10 new sets of jerseys has been one of the highlights of the season.

He says the competition has also focused on bringing clubs, officials, coaches and players together.

The grand final is set for Sunday, October 4, at Eriku Oval, with free entry for spectators.

The competition also had three women's teams this season, with the Equal Footing program expected to expand next year.

Issac says Lae AFL wants to see more young players develop their skills and eventually become leaders and ambassadors for the sport.

The focus now turns to this weekend's semi-finals, with the winners securing their place in the October 4 grand final.
