A suitcase containing K50, 000 disappeared enroute by air from Lae to Port Moresby.
The mystery of the domestic passenger check-in suitcase is now being investigated.
The passenger, who wants to remain anonymous for security reasons, said that on 22nd October, the bundle of monies was put on cargo in a black suitcase while checking in to fly with Air Niugini from Nadzab Tomodachi International Airport to Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport.
Morobe Provincial Commander Jacob Singura said Lae Criminal Investigation Division are trying to establish the facts surrounding the money disappearance.
Air Niugini has also confirmed their internal investigation into the K50, 000 mystery.
The airline statement said it generally advises passengers against putting items like jewellery, electronics, cash or important documents in check-in luggage, but carry as hand luggage.
The state-owned airline apologized to the concerned passenger and committed to expediting the investigation.
