The National St. Johns Ambulance Services accompanied by the National Department of Health Emergency Physicians has officially launched its Ambulance Clinical Practice Protocols as a smartphone application today.

This marks a significant step in supporting high-quality pre-hospital care in PNG.

The development of this App was made possible by donations raised by staff from Deloitte Australia and PNG during the height of Covid-19 pandemic.

St. Johns Ambulance Chief Executive Mathew Cannon, said the new ambulance field guideline and CPG App now makes it possible to have up-to-date protocols directly in the hands of ambulance staff.

“The App plays a significant role in strengthening clinical governance and enhancing the safety of pre-hospital care across PNG,” Mr. Cannon said.

He added that the app can operate on any android smartphone.

“All guidelines will be pre-approved by a panel of specialist emergency physicians, ensuring a high standard of clinical safety and effectiveness,” Mr. Cannon said.

“For doctors and paramedics, the App includes an advanced medical care section offering more detailed guidelines for advanced medical procedures.”

Health Minister Elias Kapavore said moving health care services from manual to digital is a way forward and he commended St. Johns Ambulance for taking the lead.

Managing Partner of Deloitte PNG Hebert Muguma said “We [Deloitte] are proud to enable the ambulance service to deliver high-quality emergency care for all Papua New Guineans.
