The Southern Highlands Provincial Division of Works is conducting an assessment of the roads damaged by a recent landslip in Mendi Munihiu district.

District MP Raphael Tonpi says the affected areas are Sengere and Solyaer along the Koen Kombal Sol Yare feeder roads.

This road serves over 10,000 people living along the Mendi River who have now been forced to walk long distances to obtain essential supplies from town.

The most affected are the elderly, mothers and school children.

Mr Tonpi says that once the inspections and assessments are completed, the affected sections will be upgraded and enhanced.

Resident Andrew Alep says the villages of Sol, Yare, Angamanda, Mungra, and parts of Abua 1, 2, and 3 in the Upper Mendi local-level government are now isolated.

He says the continuous rainfall in recent months has contributed to this landslip, impacting other areas in Southern Highlands Province as well.
