PINA meet starts in Niue

The Pacific Islands News Association [PINA]Meeting starts today in Niue [Saturday 9 am local time] with pre-summit workshops.
The small island country play host to the biannual event in the region focused on issues affecting the Pacific Media as well as collaboration within the media fraternity.
The pre-summit workshop starts today, meeting proper gets underway on Monday.
PINA president Kora Nou, who's also NBC Managing Director welcomed the media regional representatives who are on the island.
Mr Nou says he looks forward to the range of issues that will be discussed affecting the media and ways to address them.
They include artificial intelligence, ways of strengthening media associations, press freedom, women in media, and other challenges.
The summit's theme is "Charting a Resilient Future Pacific Media Navigating Press Freedom, Artificial intelligence and Geo-Political interests.
The Niue Government will open the Summit for the weeklong event attended by media representatives and associations.

Pacific Women in Media discuss issues

Meantime, about 11 women media practitioners from the Pacific are discussing ways forward in addressing issues they face, in Niue, as a prelude to the Pacific Islands News Association Summit which begins on Monday.
Women in Media have a dialogue session with Fiji and PNG chapters on Tuesday.
Femlink Pacific Executive Director Fay Volatabu in charge of the presummit workshop, explained the difference between gender and roles for women in their reporting and at their workplaces.
Pioneers for Women in Media, Australia Board Director Kathy McLeish says while there is still a long way to go with women in media, and their issues, progress is being made.
She highlighted some issues like women covering politics and sports, which is predominantly covered by male reporters.
Two women in media representatives from PNG, Lyanne Togiba from NBC and Majorie Finkeo, Post Courier are attending on behalf of the core team and over 200 female journalists, who make up the PNG chapter.
