Hunters to meet Seagulls in a crucial bid to save finals anticipations

PNG Hunters finals hopes are gradually narrowing after massive back-to-back losses and the remaining games is a must-win to keep them in top 8.
Currently seated 7th on the Hostplus Cup ladder, Hunters are in finals proximity but their faith will be tested by Tweed Seagulls this weekend in what is described as crucial for both sides.
Hunters will host the visitors at Santos National Football Stadium on Sunday [3pm kick off]) with a clear intentional to pocket the two points in front of the home fans.
Head coach Paul Aiton told media this week that the team remains optimistic regardless of the past two results against Sunshine Coast Falcons (66-8) and Redcliff Dolphins [46-14].
Aiton said the three remaining games at home are important to propel the team into finals, starting this Sunday against the tenth-placed Seagulls.
“We are desperate, and we want to win, they also want to win, and they want to make the finals as well so it’s going to be a good challenge.”
The Ila Alu-captained side will enjoy the home advantage for the remaining games to end the regular season as Hunters aim to cement their finals position.
Livewire fullback Sanny Wabo along with halves pair Jamie Mavoko and Joshua Lau will be at helm of Hunters attack.
Wabo has been electric in his position and pledged his commitment to involve himself in execution.
“We have lost the two recent games but we’re eager to bounce back this week. Personally for me, I want to cut down on errors and involve myself a lot in attack.”
Meanwhile, Seagulls are determined to face Hunters in Port Moresby with courage after defeating second-placed North Devils side last week.
The round 21 clash is equally important for the two teams as Seagulls aim to venture into finals race.
