Census officials quit

A number of Census Officials in Moresby South Electorate in the National Capital District have quit the enumeration exercise, leaving incomplete work.
This follows lack of logistics and administrative support from the National Statistical Office and National Capital District Commission and no allowance to keep them going.
Speaking to NBC News, a former Census supervisor for Moresby South Ward 3A Baki Lesnai says he has left the census work and returned to his normal day to day activity in order to survive in the city.
The census officials have raised their concerns numerous times with the concerned authorities and media but to no avail.
Census officials from other venues in the Nation's Capital have raised similar concerns after surpassing the deadline and into extra 6- weeks of enumeration exercise.
Census Coordinator for Moresby North West, Smith Yamanaban says work has been very slow and mop-up exercise yet to be conducted due to lack of support.
Despite these challenges, Prime Minister James Marape in a statement last week, indicated that the census has progressed well and is expected to be completed by 24th of August before a report of the country's population is presented on the 30th of this month.
