Pacific Games puts region’s best athletes in the spotlight

Papua New Guinea's best athletes have been up against competitors from across the Pacific during the Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games.
About 10,000 people packed the National Stadium to capacity in Honiara on September 19 to formally open the Games, which are one of the most significant events on the Oceania sporting calendar.
Since then, athletes have battled it out across a host of events, which come to an end at a closing ceremony on Saturday.
The Games Organising Committee (GOC) said all 10,000 tickets for the closing ceremony had been purchased.
CEO of the Games, Peter Stewart, said people in Honiara had embraced the Games.
“This is truly great news. We are so pleased that the excitement and the enthusiasm towards Sol2023 has continued on following the magnificent opening ceremony," he said.
"It is indeed great to see the public embrace the Games in the manner that we can only hope for. Seeing it come to fruition is indeed refreshing."
