The newly developed Chinatown site at Five-Mile in Port Moresby officially welcomes its first business operations today.

This also kicks off a month-long SME market initiative, delivered in partnership between Port Moresby City Markets and New Chinatown Management, operated by Bausen International Holdings Limited.

PASCO Events Marketing Manager, Marie Mapai, said the event is more than just a pop-up market, it’s a platform for economic empowerment aimed at transforming local SMEs.

“As the country prepares to celebrate its 58th Golden Jubilee, this initiative is about scaling up small businesses from grassroots production to international reach,” she said.

Ms. Mapai added that the venue adds to the growing network of Home City Markets, now expanding to include the spacious new Chinatown location, which will cater to many SMEs.

“We saw the need to support our local SMEs and help them connect with businesses in the Chinese community. This market fosters cross-cultural business relationships and opens new opportunities,” she said.

A Sales and Marketing Strategist from Bausen International Holdings said their collaboration with Port Moresby City Markets and Pasco Promotions began earlier this year during a Chinese New Year business luncheon.

“After meeting Ms. Sylvia Pasco and discussing our vision for Chinatown, we agreed to create the Palm City Chinatown Fusion Market, a space that brings SMEs together and supports their transition from informal markets to formal retail spaces,” the strategist said.

The market officially opened this morning from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring around 100 SMEs participating in business and cultural exchanges, live entertainment, kids’ activities, face painting, and more.

Meanwhile, the multi-billion Kina investment has entered its first phase of construction and promises to create long-term business opportunities for Papua New Guineans.
