The Government has been urged to remove the Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission from the oversight of the Ministry of Administrative Services.

PNG Trade Union Congress Assistant General Secretary Anton Sekum said the current arrangement could undermine the credibility and independence of the newly appointed Electoral Commissioner.

Mr Sekum said the oversight also raises concerns about possible political influence ahead of the 2027 National General Election.
