School cultural shows under police watch

Students in the National Capital District have been warned against school fights or any form of public nuisance during cultural shows marking the close of Term Three this week.

Assistant Commissioner of Police and NCD Central Commander Benjamin Turi issued the warning today as schools across the city prepare to celebrate with cultural events.

He said police will patrol the city to ensure smooth traffic flow and to prevent disorderly behaviour from students and spectators.

ACP Turi stressed that the recent arrest of more than 70 Tokarara Secondary School students sets a clear precedent: any student involved in fights or disruptive conduct will face arrest.

He urged parents to take responsibility for their children’s safety during this busy period.

“Parents, you have a responsibility to protect your children and make sure they arrive safely at cultural show venues and return home safely.”

Turi added that while police will maintain visibility, the sheer number of people and activities means schools and parents must also ensure cultural shows are properly controlled.

Police Station Commanders have been directed to deploy officers to schools within their areas of responsibility to maintain crowd control and reinforce police presence.
