PM James Marape attends Pacific Games opening ceremony in Solomon Islands capital Honiara

Prime Minister James Marape witnessed the opening ceremony of the 17th South Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Marape flew across the world from the United States, transiting through Australia and arrived in Solomon Islands onboard the Falcon at 2pm PNG time. 

He told reporters at the Henderson International Airport that he was happy to be one of the invited guests of Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

Sunday night's colourful opening ceremony was attended by thousands of people. The games run for two weeks and feature around 5,000 athletes.

Mr Marape spoke highly of the bilateral relations between the two nations when addressing reporters at the Henderson International airport.

He will leave for Papua New Guinea later today.

Marape attends APEC summit in San Francisco

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders including Mr Marape met in San Francisco on November 16 to 17.

Mr Marape described the series of discussions as a great outcome.

He commended the United States for successfully hosting the APEC summit.

APEC leaders agreed to harness technological and economic progress to continue to unleash the enormous potential across the region, spur economic growth and address environmental challenges, including climate change.
