The late Daulo MP Ekime Mek Gorosahu was brought into Parliament for the final time today, where his casket was formally placed in state for Members of Parliament to pay their last respects.

Escorted by pallbearers from the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, his casket was solemnly carried into the Parliament chambers and placed in state for the farewell tributes.

Opening the tributes, Prime Minister James Marape said the late Gorosahu had served the people of Eastern Highlands, particularly Daulo District, with distinction since entering Parliament in 2022.

Opposition Leader James Nomane also paid tribute, highlighting Daulo’s significance as a district known for its Arabic coffee and the world-famous Asaro Mudmen.

Nomane said the name Ekime means “Eagle”, describing the late MP as a humble leader.

United Resources Party leader William Duma remembered Gorosahu as a valued member of his party, affectionately known among colleagues as “Pirate”.

Duma revealed that Gorosahu died just 16 days before his 63rd birthday, describing his passing as a great loss to his family and the people of Daulo.

Other MPs and leaders who paid tribute included Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill, Sinesine-Yongomugl MP Kerenga Kua, Hiri-Koiari MP Keith Iduhu, Morobe Governor Rainbo Paita and NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

The late MP’s casket will be flown to Goroka on Friday, where the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government will take over the funeral arrangements.
