The United States Chargé d’ Affaires to Papua New Guinea Alex M. Berenberg recently highlighted the US government’s expanding role in Papua New Guinea’s digital future.

Two PNG digital leaders, Eugene Du Yerua and Lizarhmarie Warike, are currently in the United States under the International Visitor Leadership Program, engaging with experts on secure fiber optic networks.

Locally, the Embassy convened journalists, SMEs, and government officials for its “Digital Transformation at the Ground Level” forum, featuring innovators like University of Papua New Guinea student Belden Sakiromo, whose award winning “Bighet Rekod” system modernizes criminal records management.

“These efforts show the breadth of our partnership,” Berenberg said, “from digital transformation to defense, diplomacy, and commerce—anchored in shared values and building toward a resilient future.” Berenberg said.

Berenberg said PNG journalists recently joined a U.S. funded training on AI Technology in Journalism, equipping them with tools to navigate the opportunities and risks of emerging technologies.

He said these initiatives reflect a commitment to building capacity in PNG’s media and digital sectors, ensuring citizens can engage safely and securely in the digital era.

Beyond technology, the Embassy continues to strengthen ties through sports diplomacy, WWII history exchanges, and governance programs.
