Secretary commends district for prioritizing education
Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra commended the progress of construction work under Huon Gulf's education project when he recently visited the upcoming Wampar Secondary School site in the district.
The new secondary school project currently involves the construction of four 6-in-1 duplex classrooms, 10 teachers' houses and two ablution blocks for a start.
Dr Kombra said he was impressed with what he saw on the ground.
"We are grateful that the district is prioritizing education to address the National Education Plan 1-6-6 Policy, and that no child must be left behind," Dr Kombra said.
Dr Kombra stressed that there are other requirements the district must also meet, including registration of the school, recruitment of teachers, and provision of proper learning resources. He said an official inspection will then be conducted to confirm if all requirements are fully met.
"Infrastructure is the biggest challenge of establishing a new school, but with the progress so far, the district must maintain the momentum to have it complete," he said.
Huon Gulf MP Jason Peter, during an event, said that Wampar Secondary School is one of his key initiatives.
