World Bank and UYEP to visit urban youths in Alotau

A high-level delegation from the World Bank and Urban Youth Employment Project two (UYEP II) will visit Alotau, Milne Bay Province, from tomorrow (20.09.26), to explore skills development, employment, and economic opportunities for youths in the Alotau District.

‎The four-day visit is themed "From Skills to Employment: Connecting Alotau youths with Infrastructure, skills development and Local Economic Opportunities",

‎The high-level consultation will bring together the World Bank, UYEP II, Alotau District and its stakeholders to assess the district's priorities, implementation readiness and opportunities for the proposed Urban Youth Employment Program under phase three (III).

‎The mission will include practical field visits to potential urban work sites, technical and vocational schools, training institutions and local employers.

‎The World Bank team will be led by Elaine Chee, assisted by four other officers, while the team from the UYEP II will be led by the Project Coordination Manager, Tom Gilis, accompanied by one other officer.

The consultation is expected to provide more employment opportunities for youths while strengthening the connection between urban infrastructure improvement, vocational training, local employment and private-sector participation.

‎The Urban Youth Employment Project is a World Bank- backed initiative in PNG designed to help disadvantaged and unemployed young people.
