Hela to welcome National Fire Service, establish permanent base in Tari

The Hela Provincial Government will today officially welcome the National Fire Service and invite them to establish a permanent presence in Hela Province, says Provincial Administrator Ronny Angu.

Angu said this is a key initiative by HPG, under the leadership of governor Philip Undialu, to strengthen fire, emergency and public safety services across the province.

The official program will begin promptly at 1pm today. The National Fire Service delegation will return to Port Moresby tomorrow.

Expected to attend are governor Undialu, PNG Chief Fire Officer Bill Roo, senior fire service officers and other invited guests.

“All public servants are requested to assemble at the Hela Education Office for the official program,” Angu said.

He stressed that establishing a permanent fire service base in Hela is vital as the province continues to grow.

“We need proper fire prevention, emergency response, rescue services and protection for our people, public buildings, businesses, schools, hospitals and other properties,” he said.

"As a new province, Hela must keep building strong government services and institutions. Bringing the Fire Service closer to our people will improve our ability to respond quickly to fires, accidents, disasters and other emergencies. We will start in Tari and later expand to the districts and LLGs,” Angu said.

He said this is an important step towards building a safe, prepared and developing Hela Province.
