One dead with police officers arrested
The NCD-Central Command office was shaken yesterday by two violent incidents that left one man dead and a woman fighting for her life.
Two community police officers in Hanuabada were arrested after allegedly murdering a man from Central Province at the Metoreia Police Post.
Assistant Commissioner of Police and NCD-Central Commander, Benjamin Turi said the officers assaulted the victim following a dispute involving a woman who claimed he had sworn at her.
The man died instantly.
In a separate attack outside the New Zealand High Commission, a man repeatedly stabbed a woman with scissors.
She is now in a coma and fighting for life.
ACP Turi expressed deep concern over the growing disregard for human life, warning that respect and peaceful conflict resolution are eroding in society.
“Respect and peaceful means of solving problems have eroded away in our society, causing problems that can be easily avoided,” ACP Turi said.
He condemned the officers conduct, urging all police officers to exercise restraint and uphold professional standards.
Authorities confirmed suspects in both cases are in custody.
