2 police officers among three arrested over jailbreak

Two Police officers and a civilian have been arrested and charged for assisting in the recent mass jail break of 25 prisoners at the Wabag Police Station in Enga.

Acting Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector Daniel Yangen said the officers have been arrested and charged with 22 indictable offences which includes aiding and abetting of the escapees. While the civilian was charged with aiding an escapee.

The three arrested were locked up at the Wabag Police Station without bail as they await court proceedings.

Chief Inspector Yangen has given orders to police prosecutors to produce the report on the prison escape. Meanwhile, the civilian is awaiting appropriate charges to be laid by police.

While that is going on Acting PPC Yangen has started awareness to apprehend the escapees, starting in Tsak Valley and at the Wapenamanda area.

He said it is important for the rule of law to take place whilst reminding leaders, magistrates and community members that they will be charged and arrested if found harboring and aiding these escapees and preventing justice to take its course.

The awareness follows an investigation on the issue by Internal Affairs.

So far, no prisoner of the 25 who escaped has been caught yet.
