RPNGC Deputy Commissioner arrested over alleged misuse of travel funds

Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary [RPNGC] Deputy Commissioner Samson Kua has been arrested and charged over the alleged misuse of official police travel funds.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption [ICAC] confirmed today that Kua faces one count of abuse of office and nine counts of misappropriation.

It is alleged that between September 2024 and March 2025, Kua used RPNGC UATP travel account funds, designated strictly for official police travel, to pay for his family’s personal domestic travel. The funds involved total K14,692.50.

The matter was referred to ICAC by the Police Commissioner pursuant to Section 45 of the Organic Law on the Independent Commission Against Corruption [OLICAC].

Kua appeared before the Waigani Magistrates Court on September 3 and was granted K3,000 cash bail, alongside two sureties of K500 each. The matter has been adjourned to Sept 11 for mention.

In a statement, ICAC Acting Commissioner Retired Judge Don Sawong acknowledged the full cooperation provided by the Office of the Police Commissioner and the RPNGC throughout the investigation.
