PPC Sagom condemns viral attack on women
The Western Highlands Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Sagom has strongly condemned a group of men allegedly going around the city of Mt Hagen cutting ladies’ trousers and hair extensions.
The incident has gone viral on all forms of social media, with some claims accusing police and members of the Kumul 23 Force of being involved.
However, Western Highlands PPC Sagom said police have never approved, encouraged, or sanctioned such actions.
He said the acts were carried out by an isolated group and not by members of the police force or Kumul 23, as widely alleged by the public.
Sagom said police are not living in the Stone Age and so as the people and will never tolerate officers harassing women in public.
The PPC said the actions are degrading, unlawful, and damaging to the integrity of the police force.
He said police in Western Highlands and Kumul 23 personnel have no authority to go around attacking or humiliating women in the city.
Meanwhile, Upper Highlands Special Operations Commander Anthony Wagambie Jnr has also condemned the actions and is now working closely with PPC Sagom to identify those responsible.
PPC Sagom said investigations are continuing, and police have already brought in several suspected vehicles to the Mt Hagen Police Station, which may have been used by the group involved in the incidents.
Anyone responsible will be dealt with according to the law.
The Western Highlands Police Chief is now calling on the public not to fear or believe false information circulating on social media, assuring the community that Hagen police will never support such behavior under his command.
