Lakwaharu cricket club awards season 2025 standouts
The Lakwaharu Cricket Club officially recognized its top performers from the 2025 Port Moresby Cricket Association [POMCA] season during an awards ceremony held Saturday at Ikaiana Oval in Tubusereia.
The event celebrated a successful year for the village-based club, showcased by the Thirds team securing the Minor Premiership.
The ceremony spotlighted rising talent in the junior ranks and consistency in the senior divisions. In the under 17 boys division, Vele David tookout the 'best batsman' award while Garminick Vasiri was named the 'top fielder' and Paul Vasiri was recognised for his bowling prowess, taking out the 'Player of the Season' award.
Andrew Bae received the best bowler award in the Thirds Team, Tauedea Tau was named best fielder and wicketkeeper while overall player of the season and best batsman was awarded to Jackson Hera.
Under-17 Coach Gomea Lohia thanked the players for their 2025 dedication while calling on Tubusereia leaders to continue backing cricket as a vital pillar for local youth development.
Team Manager Vari Lahui echoed these sentiments, labeling the 2025 season a resounding success. Representing club sponsor XCMG, Public Relations Officer Ludwig Kusunan challenged the players to maintain their momentum.
"Just as powerful as our machines are, we are determined to succeed," Kusunan said. "When you step out on the field, embody that character, remember that you represent the strength of our machines."
The ceremony drew several notable figures, including NBC Managing Director Kora Nou, Hiri LLG President Haoda Rogea, and PNG Under-19 Garamuts Coach Kila Pala.
In a significant boost for the club’s future, President Rogea, speaking on behalf of Hiri-Koiari MP Keith Iduhu, announced a K5,000 commitment to support Lakwaharu Cricket Club’s 2026 campaign.
