Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko has presented K100,000 from the District Development Authority to the Kaugere United Church today to support the renovation of its aging infrastructure.

The funding is split into two K50,000 components: half is dedicated to upgrading the 54-year-old church building, while the remaining K50,000 will fund the construction of a new ministerial residence for the Reverend.

Speaking during the presentation, Tkatchenko said church leaders and their congregations are the unsung heroes of the community.

"Pastors and congregations make silent sacrifices for the people in their community to live a better life," Tkatchenko said.

"Kaugere is one of the pioneer areas of Moresby South, and I am happy to help the community with this donation. Churches are a key pinnacle to change behaviors; they play an important role by teaching peace that brings about stability."

The MP emphasized that the presence of the Word of God is a primary driver for peace and improved livelihoods within the electorate.

Kaugere United Church Reverend, Paul Baiau, expressed his gratitude to the MP, saying the financial support was a seed planted in God's kingdom.

"It is a blessing for the community and the congregation to receive this donation," Reverend Baiau said.

"I promise that the money funded will be put to good use to finish the job."

The Kaugere United Church has been a landmark in the South Side community for over five decades, serving as a spiritual hub for generations of residents.
