A new 8-in-1 classroom at Zifasing Junior High School will be named in honor of prominent Wampar leader Joseph Tetang, Principal Philominraj Paskal announced during a ground-breaking ceremony last week.

The project, located in the Huon Gulf District of Morobe Province, was a commitment made by late Morobe Governor Luther Wenge during a visit to the school last year.

"The 8-in-1 classroom will be named the Joseph Tetang Building, as requested by the Governor when he committed the building," Paskal said.

While the classroom is a government-backed initiative, a new teacher’s duplex is being funded through Parents and Citizen [P&C] contributions. Paskal said it was important that community involve and contribute in the school's growth.

"The duplex teacher’s house is a school project because we want to be self-reliant," he said. "We do our part, and the government steps in to do theirs."

The ceremony also saw the inauguration of three new ablution blocks and a bore water supply project which was the first of its kind in the district. These facilities were funded via Provincial Social Services infrastructure grants totaling K399,982.50 for the blocks and K177,400 for the water supply.
