Madang PPC impressed with progress of work on new police office
Madang's Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Robert Baim, is impressed with the progress of work on the K7 million new Madang Town Police Station office complex.
Actual construction work began in mid January after the demolition of the old building.
Baim said; "So far, so good. Demolition was done in December last year straight after the decommissioning, and construction started in the second week of January.
"Fairly, I'm more than satisfied. At the pace they are going, I think they will be able to complete construction before or by December this year."
However, whilst work is progressing well on the new complex, PPC said they are still waiting for a pre- fabricated building from PNG Forest Products in Bulolo, which will be used as a temporary administration block.
The temporary admin block will also accommodate some members of the CID and prosecution units who are still without any office space at the moment.
He is hoping the pre- fabricated kwik built administration building can be ready in the next two months so his officers can have proper work stations.
In the meantime, Superintendent Baim commended his officers, especially the CID, Prosecution, and Public Safety, for their continued commitment to their work.
"Generally, they are doing a tremendous job. With or without proper office spaces, they are still doing their job, and I really appreciate what my members are doing.
Meanwhile, the General Manager for RSEA Construction, Edmon Napoles Alatraca, said, the foundation of the building is done, however; there are some adjustments being made to the flooring elevation.
"The previous building had an elevation of 100 to 200 millimetres only.
"However; due to climate change and rise in sea level, the new elevation of the existing roads and shops within the vicinity, we have to adjust the floor elevation.
The construction team is also building a parameter fence, as well as a sea wall on the waterfront.
"Every time there's high tide, water comes in; therefore, a sea wall is necessary," he added.
Alatraca is confident they will complete construction on time or even ahead of the set deadline.
