The Morobe–Northern highway is more than just infrastructure; it is a promise of transformation.

This vital stretch of road, now carving its way through the rugged terrain of Wau Waria and onward to Kira village in Sohe district of Northern Province.

This highway is envisioned as a powerful economic corridor, linking Morobe to Oro province and extending its reach to the Central and Gulf provinces as well, opening pathways for trade, agriculture, services and sustainable development.

For the people who have long waited for reliable road access, the highway represents connection, commerce and opportunity.

As the local MP championing the implementation of this National Highway, Narewec is now appealing to the Works Secretary to honor the late Works and Highways Minister, Solan Mirisim's commitment to this critical project.

“We have some pro forma contracts since 2024 still outstanding.

"The late Works Minister, Solan Mirisim made a commitment of K7million at the official launching in Bapi village on March 25th last year (2025), to which Secretary Holemba was also present, when the Morobe–Northern Highway reached Bapi," Narewec said.

He also explained that of the K7million pledged, only K3million has been paid to contractors, leaving a significant K4million outstanding, funds that are crucial to maintaining momentum and ensuring contractors can continue their work without disruption.

He said the Wau Waria DDA has since deployed its own heavy machinery and resources, carrying much of the operational burden to ensure work continues to progress under the National Government’s Connect PNG initiative.

As the district’s MP and a strong advocate for rural connectivity, Narewec remains hopeful for a continuous dialogue with the Department of Works and Highways, to ensure the remaining funding is secured to guarantee the smooth continuation of the Morobe-Northern Highway.

"With this, I would like to acknowledge the support of the Sohe District Development Authority, through its Chairman and District MP, Henry Amuli, for fully honoring his K500,000 commitment toward the development of this National Highway,” he said.

Mr Narewec said honoring past commitments and ensuring timely funding will not only respect the legacy of leadership. Still, he will also unlock the immense economic and social potential of the country's Northern Economic Corridor, the Morobe-Northern Highway.
