Junior darts launched to develop young talent in Goroka
The spotlight is shifting to the next generation of throwers as Goroka Lodge & Wild Club launches its Kids Dart Competition 2026, a grassroots sporting event aimed at developing young talent in a safe and competitive setting.
Open exclusively to Goroka residents, the tournament targets youths aged 13 to 16 and features a unique team format of two boys, two girls and two adult guardians.
Goroka Lodge & Wild Club Managing Director, Warrick Wild said the structure is designed to keep families involved while nurturing discipline and teamwork among young players.
“The initiative aims to give young people a positive weekend activity while promoting discipline, teamwork, and social connection,” Wild said.
The competition boasts one of the strongest junior prize pools in the province, with cash rewards for the top ten teams.
First place will walk away with K1,500 followed by K1,000 for second and K500 for third, while teams placing fourth to tenth will also receive cash prizes.
“Registration is set at K150 per team, and organizers expect strong interest from schools, settlements, and youth groups across Goroka."
"To support participation, transport will be provided after the games, ensuring all players return home safely," said Wild.
Team confirmations take place on February 21st, 2026, from 1pm to 5pm, with the first round of matches scheduled for February 28 at the same time.
Fresh from hosting a successful Goroka Provincial Dart Tournament featuring 22 teams from five provinces, Wild says the kid's competition will serve as a development pathway to build future darting talent while keeping young people focused and disciplined.
