The Giroea Touch Footy Competition is once again bringing festive cheer and community spirit to Girobara village in Rigo district Central Province this Christmas season.

The annual competition, now in its third year, is held during the holiday period to keep children and youths positively engaged and away from harmful activities.

According to the organizers, the event promotes fun, respect and inclusiveness among participants.

This year’s tournament features eight senior men's teams, four women’s teams and four Under-13 teams.

Coinciding with this year's competition, for the first time since its inception, the competition partnered with NRL in PNG to deliver the Voice Against Violence Program which was staged on Thursday at Girobara Village.

More than 30 youths aged 18 and above took part in the Voice Against Violence sessions, while 40 children under 12 enjoyed fun and interactive games.

The program is supported by the Australian Government through the PNG-Aus Partnership, and aims to empower players to recognize and take action against gender-based violence.

Competition President Indy Verena thanked NRL in PNG General Manager, Cathy Neap and her team for accepting the invitation and delivering such an important and timely program ahead of the festive season.

The Giroea Touch Footy Competition will stage its finals in the first week of January.
