Narewec congratulates Wau Waria’s new LLG leaders
Morobe's newly established district, Wau Waria, welcomed its first Mayor, Gedion Kipusing, John Aki as the Wau Rural LLG President, and Maita Tokubo as the Waria Rural LLG President.
In congratulating the newly elected mayor and ward presidents, Wau Waria MP, Marsh Narewec said, “You have been selected and chosen by your peer councilors to lead them, do not let them lose their trust in you, but lead them with courage by ensuring you have regular assembly meetings because that is the foundation of good governance and leadership".
Serving the new district for two to three years now, Mr Narewec urged the new leaders to focus on achievable priorities, noting that while the district has many needs, resources may be limited.
“Do not make promises you cannot keep. Priority one is to ensure your Administration, public servants and office is functional and can serve the people of your respective LLGs,” he remarked.
Acknowledging his national-level duties, Narewec emphasized the importance of local presence.
“I am a national MP, so I have very good reasons to be out of the district most of the time in a year. You, on the other hand, are a local leader, so the citizens of your respective LLGs and I expect you and your councilors to be based in your respective LLG and Wards,” Narewec said.
The MP confirmed that the newly elected LLG Presidents will soon be sworn in, as members of the District Development Authority [DDA] Board, to support the district’s development priorities by next month or in early January 2026.
Mr Narewec also thanked and paid special tributes to the outgoing LLG heads, David Anjo, Dera Garaba, and Jason Ata for their cooperation and support in advancing the DDA’s development priorities, stating that a lot has been achieved together with their support.
He reminded all the leaders that, “Being a LLG President has a time frame for every five years, but being a leader has no time frame. Show your leadership caliber with dignity and pride, as you remain as councilors and members of your respective Assembly.”
Narewec also acknowledged those who were not elected, saying, “You have raised your hand up to be a leader, and that is commendable. The election process has made you a community leader, so that leadership continues after the election process.”
