Athletics champs set for Goroka

The 64th National Track and Field Championships will be held at the National Sports Institute in Goroka next week from Friday December 5th to Sunday December 7th.

At this stage Athletics PNG is still in the process of finalizing the total number of athletes and associations who will be participating in this annual athletics event.

The deadline for all registrations is set for this Saturday November 29th.

In the lead up to the National Championships, the National Sports Institute has been running trials to prepare its athletes.

Some of the athletes expected to shine in the championships include rising talent Nathan Kawona who is a 15-year-old prospect improving his timings in the 400 meters.

Other athletes include Danny Wakit and Merna Martins who have been clocking in some good times in the 300 metre and 400 metre hurdles.

This year's Championships is supported by Lae Biscuit Company, MSD Store, Prima, PNG Sports Foundation, the National Sports Institute, Athletics PNG and the PNG Olympic Committee.
