K4.9billion for education as government expands support in key sectors

Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey presented a massive K30.9 billion National Budget for 2026, to the house this afternoon.

This, yet another record budget is projecting revenues at K29.3 billion and a deficit of K1.6 billion.

The national government's key priority areas of health, education, infrastructure and law and justice sectors are seeing increased budget allocations.

Mr. Ling-Stuckey told the house that the education sector is seeing increased funding of K4.9 billion, while maintaining tuition fee-free subsidies, government scholarships, and higher education loan programs for tertiary students.

The household assistance package of K1 billion maintained in the 2026 budget will also continue to provide K175 million in assistance towards school project fees subsidies.

This year's budget allocation for education was K4.5 billion.
