Meth suspects arrested in Port Moresby
The son of a prominent figure in PNG and a senior public relations officer have been detained for being in possession of illegal drugs during a routine police patrol at Gordons today.
The suspects, identified as from Western and East Sepik Provinces, were picked up by police at Gordons in a brown Toyota Land Cruiser 10-seater with registration BHF846.
NCD Central commander Benjamin Turi has confirmed that both men were taken into custody and held at the Waigani Police Station and are now being moved to Badili Police Station.
According to police reports, they were pulled over by a patrolling unit, and upon inspection, the duo appeared to be intoxicated and under the influence of methamphetamine.
The driver, dressed in full police field gear, and the passenger were subjected to a search when implements used for consuming methamphetamine were discovered along with a packet of crystal meth in the driver’s bag.
Turi confirmed that the two men have been under surveillance by the drug squad since last week, before their apprehension today.
Both men are now being transfered to the Drug Squad office in Badili for further interrogation.
