The Eastern Highlands Province has completed its 2025 Local Level Government [LLG] elections, with writs formally returned to the Electoral Commissioner yesterday by Election Manager Steven Kaupa and his team.

Polling began on 25 October and ran through to 14 November, while counting for ward councillors started on 30 October and concluded on 13 November.

Kaupa said the election was conducted peacefully across all stages from nomination through to campaign, polling and counting, despite several delays. A total of 657 polling teams were deployed across 25 LLGs and 287 wards to deliver the exercise.

He thanked security personnel and key stakeholders for ensuring a smooth process, noting that only minor issues were reported.

“Once the Commissioner and the Minister for Provincial & LLG Affairs sight the writs, they will be returned and councillors will begin lobbying to elect their LLG presidents,” Kaupa said.

All 287 ward councillor seats have now been declared, with their writs successfully returned.

“This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of electoral officials, security personnel, stakeholders, and the people of Eastern Highlands Province,” Kaupa said.
