Aung Myae Co. Ltd has opened its first full-scale supermarket in Vanimo Town, marking a significant expansion for the Myanmar-owned company and a notable development in West Sepik Province’s retail sector.

The new outlet represents the firm’s largest investment since establishing operations in the region in 2012.

Founded by brothers Htun Min Htet [Tom] and Yin Aye [Yin], Aung Myae Co. Ltd built its reputation through a network of smaller trading shops before transitioning into higher-capacity retail.

The supermarket will offer a broad range of consumer goods, including electronics, household items, and general merchandise, targeting both public and institutional buyers.

West Sepik Governor, Tony Wouwou, was at the opening ceremony to welcome the investment and acknowledged the company’s long-standing engagement with the local economy.

He noted that the provincial government had supported the business by making land available, citing its proven reliability and contribution to youth employment.

“The Government saw that they are good business partner as in return, they employ young individuals to sustain their living.” Governor Wouwou said.

He added that the province values positive business relations and called on residents to maintain a cooperative environment conducive to investment.

The Governor also used the occasion to encourage local entrepreneurship, urging residents to pursue business ventures capable of competing at similar scale and contributing to wider economic growth.

He emphasized the need for self-initiative rather than dependence on government funding.

Strategically located next to the Vanimo Town Main Market, the new supermarket is expected to improve access to retail goods, enhance supply reliability for both households and businesses, and strengthen commerce within the town and its surrounding districts.
