MSG Prime Minister’s Cup kicks off in Port Moresby
One of the biggest regional football tournaments in Melanesia, the 2025 MSG Prime Minister’s Cup officially kicks off today at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
Fans across Papua New Guinea and the Pacific can catch all the action live on NBC TV and via social media livestreams.
The opening match at 1pm will feature the PNG Reds women’s team up against the Fiji Kulas, marking a historic moment as women’s fixtures are introduced for the first time in the tournament’s fourth edition.
PNG Reds women’s coach Susan Steven said her side is eager to make the most of the opportunity.
“As a development team, we’re looking forward to gaining valuable experience against a quality Fijian side,” Steven said.
She also thanked the MSG Secretariat and the PNG Government for including women’s football in this year’s competition.
In the men’s fixture later today, the PNG Reds men will take on Vanuatu, with coach Harrison Kamake saying his young squad is determined to test themselves against some of the region’s best.
“This is a development side, and we’re here to learn and grow from the competition,” Kamake said.
Meanwhile, defending champions PNG Gold will begin their campaign on Wednesday, when the men’s team hosts the Solomon Islands national side.
The PNG Gold women’s team, made up of national representatives, will also make their tournament debut against the Vanuatu women’s national team.
