Close to 200 students from Madang Province, who are studying at the University of Goroka; are making an urgent appeal to the Madang Provincial Government and the head of police in the province to help arrange their safe exit from Goroka.

Their call follows the weekend's turn of events between a faction of students and the surrounding local community, which had left several people injured, including students.

In a request note sent by the Madang students to various Madang WhattsApp groups, they are overly concerned about their safety and needed to immediately contact Governor Ramsey Pariwa and PPC Superintendent Robert Baim.

They are urgently requesting contact from Madang Provincial Authorities, including the PPC Madang, Governor, Provincial Administrator, and District MPs, to discuss their safety and welfare.

Concerned Madang citizens, including parents; are appealing to the provincial authorities to immediately reach out to the students at UOG with the necessary assistance and assurance before the situation on the ground worsens.

Meanwhile, according to PPC Baim, his command is fully aware of the UOG situation.

Governor Pariwa, meanwhile; has assured the safe return of the Madang students.

It is a great concern that Madang Students attending University of Goroka (UOG) cannot sit for their examinations this week due to a fight between the upper highlands students and locals around the campus.

I have established contacts with authorities on the ground and kept abreast with the situation.

The situation is contained, and all students are safe.

" I've already issued directives for the administration and provincial police to attend to Madang students and bring them home safely. I assure a safe return home for my students," he said.

According to the President of UOG Madang Students, the students are waiting for the university to make a decision at this time. All Madang students are safe and well.
